Winnipeg South ((フランス語:Winnipeg-Sud)) is a Canadian federal electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1917 to 1979, and since 1988. It covers the south of the city of Winnipeg. ==History== The electoral district was created in 1914 from Winnipeg riding. In 1976, it was abolished when it was redistributed into Provencher, Winnipeg—Assiniboine and Winnipeg—Fort Garry ridings. In 1987, it was re-created from Winnipeg—Assiniboine and Winnipeg—Fort Garry ridings. Winnipeg South was expected by some to be a close race in 2011,〔(CTV.ca )〕 although theses pundits were later proven wrong. This race was very close in 2006, between its Liberal incumbent, Reg Alcock and his challenger, Tory Rod Bruinooge. Bruinooge won by just 111 votes. Bruinooge's victory in 2008 was much more comfortable, having won by nearly 6,000 votes. His challenger was Liberal Party activist and former city councillor Terry Duguid. This riding lost territory to Winnipeg South Centre and Saint Boniface—Saint Vital, and gained territory from Saint Boniface during the 2012 electoral redistribution.
